Owned and operated by Shannon Browning, Grocery Outlet Elma opened its doors on July 18, 2024, becoming only the second major grocery store serving the Elma community. At just over 10,000 square feet, the store is well-stocked and backed by a parking lot with more than 190 spaces.

Grocery Outlet is the nation's largest extreme value retailer, with over 400 independently owned and operated stores across the country. Founded in 1946 by Jim Read — who began by selling military surplus at deep discounts — the company is now led by the third generation of the Read family and serves more than 1.5 million shoppers each week.

Community Commitment

Shannon Browning is deeply rooted in the Elma community. Before even applying for the store, she built relationships with the chamber of commerce, the mayor, the police and fire departments, and local food banks. Her efforts have paid off in strong community support.

• Independence From Hunger: Each July, Grocery Outlet runs its annual food drive benefiting local food banks. The Elma store partners with the East County Food Bank and the Elma Food Bowl.
• Elma Little League: A car wash fundraiser held in the store parking lot raised $4,700 for the local team in just three hours.
